Can Hospice Help? ![]() Hospice is not a place. Rather, it’s a philosophy of care. To be eligible for hospice, one must be diagnosed with a terminal illness and have a life expectancy of six months or less. The patient’s physician or an HPH Hospice physician can certify eligibility. But anyone, including the patient or family member, can make the first call to HPH to discuss our services and determine if hospice care may be appropriate. Our phones are answered 2. Regularly scheduled visits from our hospice team members including the hospice nurse, hospice aide, social worker, chaplain and volunteers. If a patient or family would like a visit by an HPH Chaplain, we uphold your belief system. Visits by the patient’s physician or an HPH Hospice physician wherever care is taking place in Pasco, Hernando or Citrus counties. Dignity, compassion and peace of mind for the patient and family. Medication and equipment related to the terminal diagnosis delivered to the patient’s door seven days a week. Trained, trusted HPH volunteers who visit; provide caregiver respite; honor veterans; offer music therapy, comfort touch or the making of a legacy video; a visit from an HPH Compassionate Paws therapy dog; or 1. Most HPH Hospice care takes place in private residences, nursing homes or assisted living facilities. HPH also has beautiful, homelike Hospice Care Centers that are for individuals who have a terminal illness and need short- term, round- the- clock care due to a variety of acute medical needs. Care at these comfortable facilities focus on relief of pain and acute symptom management. Loved ones are welcome to stay overnight at any of our Hospice Care Centers or visit whenever they please, day or night. What is the Cost? HPH Hospice care for terminally ill individuals is provided regardless of one’s ability to pay. The same applies to our bereavement programs for families of the deceased and the community. Many people ask how this is possible. HPH Hospice receives reimbursement from Hospice Medicare or Medicaid benefits and insurance that covers hospice care. We are also very grateful for our donors’ generosity. What Does HPH Stand For? HPH Hospice was once called Hernando- Pasco Hospice before it began serving Citrus County residents in 2.
